Creativity and New Media

In this blog I am going to write about a creativeness which new media allows us to do. As an example, I chose to talk about virtual platform "Second Life". Second Life is an online environment that created by Linden Lab a company based in San Francisco. Second Life is a virtual community that allows people to create their avatars and design them which represents themselves within virtual world. In the Second Life you are basically able to design your life, land, house, avatar and etc. This is a creative way of using new media. These days virtual sites like Second Life are becoming popular among young generation. After being assigned to create my own avatar I downloaded this site and designed my own avatar. It was interesting to see that how new media allows people to be more creative and design such sites and live in virtual world. You can also go to social gatherings, concerts, even college classes. They basically can do a lot of stuff that you can do in real life. Second Life also has its own currency referred to as Linden dollars where you can purchase stuff like clothing, land or more objects to customize your virtual world. You can exchange real world currency to a Linden dollars through Linden Lab currency brokerage.

I have uploaded my avatar from Second Life below.

  1. Hey Azimdjon,
It's very excited to see that you created an avatar on Second Life as I did. The creativity you discovered is about the emulationally social lives in this virtual game. I didn't notice that it has place like college class. That looks awesome. For me, I focuse more on the powers this game entitled to the avatar. Dancing, diving, and flying, which look very real and give me an immersive feeling, and I seem to be personally on the scene. However, I find myself a little bit lonely when I'm walking, running, or flying in the scene because the scene is infinitely extended, and in the most of the time my avatar acts by herself, and I'm looking her actions with the virtual and inanimate environment. Hence, I'm wondering that that is why social networking sites can never replace the real interactions with people in the real life.
    Best,
    Yang
