Social Networking Sites


            Nowadays, social media is becoming an important tool to promote businesses and companies over the world. Social networking sites, such as, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn  - are all can benefit companies, people and brands in a certain way. Comparing two major social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, we can say that Facebook networks people while Twitter is the place where people network ideas and topics. These two social sites are became very popular and famous worldwide. On Facebook people interact with each other and find their old friends through search tool and keep in touch with their friends and family. You can also share your memories, pictures or any of your thoughts with your friends and followers. It basically helps people and businesses to connect and communicate with each other. On the other hand, a social media like Twitter limits users' post to a limited characters. You cannot write articles or long posts on Twitter while you can tweet your thoughts, ideas or any other important information. Twitter is good to use when something important events are happening in the country or any events in celebrities' life. Because you can easily get any information you want happening in the world like the latest topic trending stories. Facebook is more difficult to use than Twitter. Because it has more tools and options than Twitter. That's why people use Facebook to interact with each other, businesses and companies use this social media to promote their brands among users and to communicate directly with their customers and people.
         
           There are also other social media sites besides Facebook or Twitter. Social media sites like Instagram or LinkedIn are also for communication while they slightly differ from each other. Instagram became popular among users in 2012 and it was basically for photo editing and sharing to followers. Since it became popular among users they added more tools and options like messaging, sharing stories, and blogging. Today, people and businesses are making a lot of profits advertising their products and brands on Instagram. LinkedIn is also a social networking site, but more for professionals and corporations. It is an easy way to find a job, connect with professionals and network with people. The articles and posts shared on LinkedIn are more professional based than those shared on Facebook or Instagram.

Recently, I have discussed some privacy issues in my term paperwork. Privacy is both ethical and legal concept. It should be protected with implementation of confidentiality and security. Nowadays, as new media is replacing the old fashioned system, the privacy issues are also increasing day by day. Social medias like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter etc. are misusing user’s personal information. Even some of those information are being sold to ad companies in order to advertise their products for particular people who uses a search engine to look for any products or simply having a conversation with someone else on social media. Advice

Social media has brought a ton of opportunities for students and professionals to build business networks. Baruch College is already using a new media for student’s homework activities and library services. However, I believe that if college expands the use of new technology within campus would benefit more students than now. Most of the students commute from different boroughs, even from neighbor states to the campus to attend classes. First of all, they spend time and money in order to get to college to attend lectures. Instead of attending in class lectures I would recommend and create a live lectures where students and professors would communicate through online video sessions with each other just being at home. It would basically save everyone’s time and money.
